Dimitra Ioannou experiments with narrative or anti-narrative forms employing various media (writing, photography, publications). She is the author of the chapbook Electric Sarcasm (Ugly Duckling Presse, 2020) and the experimental novella Soy Sea (Futura, Athens, 2008).

She is the founding editor of  A) GLIMPSE) OF) press and the journal A) GLIMPSE) OF), and co-editor of brossura/ A Manual of Pirate Languages.

Her (video)poems and photos have been presented in exhibitions in Greece and/or in publications internationally. Her poems have been published in magazines such as antiphony journal (Oct. 2024), Stillpoint, Stand, Splinter, MAI: Feminism & Visual Culture, DATABLEED, and Blackbox Manifold, among others. She writes poetry mainly in English. She had poems translated into French in the summer issue 2023 of the poetic journal Nioques.

Her radio-play How Poems-Cities (a long poem in Greek for two voices) was specially commissioned by the Onassis Cultural Centre (2018) for the Radio_OCC series.

Translation is an integral part of her practice. She has translated from English into Greek contemporary feminist and radical writers, such as Sara Ahmed (brossura #3), Anne Boyer (brossura #1), Alice Notley (special edition of A GLIMPSE OF), Jake Kennedy (aglimpseof #1) . She runs experimental writing workshops called “texτλab” since 2015.

She is based in Athens.

Η Δήμητρα Ιωάννου πειραματίζεται με μορφές αφήγησης ή αντι-αφήγησης χρησιμοποιώντας διάφορα μέσα (γραφή, φωτογραφία, εκδόσεις). Είναι συγγραφέας του βιβλίου «Electric Sarcasm» που κυκλοφορεί από τον Αμερικανικό εκδοτικό οίκο Ugly Duckling Presse (2020) και της νουβέλας «Μια θάλασσα από σόγια» (Futura, 2008).

Εκδίδει και επιμελείται τις εκδόσεις A) GLIMPSE) OF) και το περιοδικό A) GLIMPSE) OF), ενώ είναι συνεπιμελήτρια του Εγχειρίδιου Κλέφτικων Γλωσσών brossura.

(Video)ποιήματα και φωτογραφίες της έχουν παρουσιαστεί σε εκθέσεις στην Ελλάδα ενώ ποιήματά της έχουν δημοσιευτεί σε περιοδικά όπως antiphony journal (Oct. 2024), Stillpoint, Stand, Splinter, MAI: Feminism & Visual Culture, DATABLEED, and Blackbox Manifold. Γράφει ποίηση κυρίως στα αγγλικά. Ορισμένα ποιήματά της μεταφράστηκαν στα γαλλικά για το περιοδικό Nioques (καλοκαίρι 2023).

Το έργο της «Πώς τα ποιήματα-πόλεις», ένα μεγάλο ποίημα για δύο πρόσωπα σε μουσική Στράτου Μπιχάκη, επιλέχθηκε για τη σειρά Radiophonics της Στέγης Ωνάση (2018).

Η μετάφραση είναι αναπόσπαστο μέρος της πρακτικής της. Έχει μεταφράσει σύγχρονα φεμινιστιά, ριζοσπαστικά κείμενα -ποίηση και δοκίμια- από τα αγγλικά στα ελληνικά, όπως των Sara Ahmed (brossura #3), Anne Boyer (brossura #1), Alice Notley (έξτρα τεύχος A GLIMPSE OF), Jake Kennedy (aglimpseof #1) κλπ.

Εισηγείται τα εργαστήρια πειραματικής γραφής «texτλab» από το 2015.

Ζει στην Αθήνα.
